How We Polish Concrete

We begin with coarse diamond grinding pads to remove the surface cream and expose the aggregate beneath. The depth of grinding determines how much stone is visible in the final result, from a light salt-and-pepper appearance through to full aggregate exposure.

Between grinding stages, we apply a chemical densifier, a liquid hardener that penetrates the concrete and reacts with the calcium hydroxide to create additional crystalline structure. This makes the surface harder, denser, and more resistant to wear and staining.

We then progress through increasingly fine diamond pads. Each pass refines the surface further, removing scratches left by the previous grit. The final stages use resin-bonded pads with grits as fine as 3000, producing the characteristic high-gloss finish.

The number of grinding passes and the final grit level determine the sheen. David will discuss your preferred level of gloss, from a subtle satin to a full mirror finish, and tailor the process accordingly.
