A driveway in South East Queensland faces conditions that would ruin a poorly built slab. Our advice is shaped by three local realities: reactive soils, heavy rain and relentless heat.
Much of Logan, Ipswich and the Redlands sits on reactive clay. These soils swell when wet and shrink when dry, and that movement lifts and drops anything built on top. A driveway laid straight onto untreated clay will crack as the ground breathes through the seasons. David manages this with a properly compacted base of crushed rock or road base, which spreads the load and gives the slab a stable platform that moves as little as possible. Drainage is the next priority. A driveway must shed water, not hold it. Heavier loads call for more. If you park a caravan, boat trailer or work ute, David lifts the slab to 125–150mm and upgrades the mesh or adds bar reinforcement. Thickened edge beams support the sections that carry the most weight, such as the vehicle crossover at the street. He assesses each driveway on its own merits, taking in soil type, gradient and the vehicles it needs to carry, rather than pouring every slab to the same recipe.
Control joints are the final piece of crack management. All concrete shrinks slightly as it cures, and that shrinkage has to go somewhere. David cuts control joints at calculated intervals so any movement gathers at planned lines rather than surfacing as random cracks across the slab. It is a simple detail that separates a driveway that ages well from one that does not.

Oil and rust are the two stains worth acting on quickly. Wipe up engine drips before they soak in, and treat rust marks from garden furniture or trailers early.
